We built Mealio because
meal planning was broken.
Every Sunday, millions of people open their fridge, stare blankly, and order takeout. Not because they don't care about what they eat — but because planning is hard. Mealio fixes that.
Our mission
To make eating well the path of least resistance — not the hardest thing you do all week.
The story
Mealio started in a small Toronto apartment in 2024. Our co-founder was tracking calories in a spreadsheet, cross-referencing nutrition tables, and writing weekly grocery lists by hand. It took two hours every Sunday and still felt like guesswork.
We built the first version of Mealio in six weeks. It could calculate your calorie target, suggest recipes from your pantry, and generate a grocery list. Users signed up in the hundreds on day one.
Today, 120,000+ home cooks across Canada, the US, and the UK use Mealio every week to plan smarter meals, waste less food, and actually enjoy the cooking process. We're a small team with a big mission, and we're just getting started.
What we believe
Food is personal
There's no single right diet. Mealio adapts to your goals, preferences, and culture — not the other way around.
Time is precious
Planning should take minutes, not hours. We obsess over making Mealio faster and more intuitive every release.
Science, not trends
We use clinically validated methods (Mifflin-St Jeor, USDA nutrition data) — not fad-diet assumptions.
